Katie Southworth

Consultant, EMVEnergy Solutions and Natural Resources Defense Council

Based in Nashville, Tennessee, Katie Southworth is a consultant with Natural Resources Defense Council’s Sustainable FERC Project and EMVEnergy Solutions, LLC. Katie’s advocacy for NRDC focuses on the intersection of climate and energy issues: strengthening state climate policies, utility regulations, and energy markets to support a low-carbon, clean energy grid. Previously, Katie served as Senior Staff at Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development and Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, where she oversaw the State Energy Program, Volunteer State Solar Initiative and Tennessee Qualified Energy Conservation Bond programs. Katie currently serves on the Steering Committee of the Southeast Climate and Energy Network (SCEN).

Katie’s energy system modeling and policy research with the US Department of Energy, Georgia Tech, Bipartisan Policy Center, and Southeast Energy Efficiency Alliance has been published in a number of peer-reviewed journals, including Energy Policy and Policy & Society. Katie holds a bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University, a graduate degree in Mandarin Language and Culture from Zhejiang University and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law.
